Join us for a fun and educational canoe trip on the Luckiamute River, where you’ll explore local history and river ecology! Take a journey through time with park rangers Steve Hernandez and Ricardo Rodriguez as you paddle the Luckiamute River. Along the way, you’ll learn how past industries shaped the river, uncover the hidden lives of freshwater mussels, hear stories of historic log drives, and discover how beavers help keep our waterways healthy. It’s a hands-on adventure that connects Oregon’s natural history with its cultural roots!
This event is open to anyone over the age of 6 years old.
Note: This is a beginner-friendly event, and paddlers of all experience levels are welcome! The section of the Luckiamute River we’ll be traveling is shallow (typically 2–3 feet deep) and slow-moving at this time of year. In the unlikely event of a capsize, you’ll likely be able to stand comfortably in the water. All participants will receive a mandatory safety training at the start of the event, and properly fitted life jackets will be provided for everyone. Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) staff will be on the water in kayaks, ready to assist anyone needing help with their canoe. This promises to be a fun, relaxed outing — we hope to see you there!
Are you an experienced paddler with a kayak or small boat of your own that you'd like to bring? If so, please do not fill out the registration form below - instead, contact Suzanne Teller directly by emailing [email protected] or calling 503-837-0237. Thank you!
