​*Please note that you and any guest volunteers will be required to fill out a waiver before each volunteer event. All minors present during the event must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Come join the Friends of Gentle Woods Park in a volunteer-led effort to restore the health of the native plant community along Ash Creek! Whether you are a first-time volunteer or a seasoned veteran of community restoration efforts, we invite you to lend a hand towards this effort to improve local habitat for plants and wildlife that thrive alongside and within Ash Creek!

In November, we'll be focusing on the removal of invasive English ivy, which can weaken and even topple mature trees and smother young seedlings in the understory. Tools and gloves will be provided, but if you have your own (especially handsaws), please bring them!

Friends of Gentle Woods Volunteer events may involve:

• Walking over uneven terrain and through vegetation that may include thorns, brambles, exposed roots, and poison oak (we will have Tecnu available for pre- and post- poison oak exposure treatment)
• Using pruners and loppers to cut ivy vines and pull them off of and away from tree trunks
• Cutting blackberry vines and digging out reed canary grass
• Using a wheelbarrow and/or carrying armloads of plant materials
• Planting and spreading mulch around young trees and shrubs
• Cutting wire and constructing deer-proof tree cages
• Optional: walking and removing invasive weeds within the stream channel and getting wet and muddy!

**Please also note the following:

• All volunteers should bring a water bottle and snacks (if needed). A water cooler will be available on-site for water bottle refills.
• Due to the thorny vegetation and potential for muddy conditions, please be sure to wear appropriate clothing - including sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots, long pants and long sleeves.
• If you have gauntlet-style, thorn-proof work gloves, please bring them (and extra pairs if you have enough to share!)
  
• Public restrooms are available at the Park
